Our "By His Grace" Food Pantry has made some changes to best serve the families in our communities and pantry distribution has moved to every Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Everyone is invited to bring your family to join us for our free community breakfast on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. and our free community supper every Thursday evening at 6 p.m. where we will also have free bread and pastries available to anyone who would like some.
Please contact the church office with any questions at 830-947-3333.
FOOD PANTRY PROGRAM CHANGES & WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT
We have begun a new partnership with Daily Bread Ministries (DBM) for the bulk of our supply of food which will support both our food pantry distribution and our church meals. This partnership is exciting because DBM fully embraces our mutual mission to share the gospel with families in our communities.
The changes in the pantry ministry are as follows:
§ DBM food supply will be donated free to FBCSS, instead of the church having to purchase food to distribute, and will include more fresh produce, meal items, drinks and snacks, as opposed to dry goods or primarily dry goods/pantry items.
§ DBM food supply is not able to be delivered, but volunteers (2-person team or a family) will need to pick up our food supply once a week in NE San Antonio at 6:30 a.m. on Mondays or Fridays.
§ Food distribution to pantry visitors will be on Mondays weekly, from 5:30-7 p.m.
In addition, we are reaching out to local growers and companies to consider supporting the pantry with food items.
WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT
VOLUNTEER: We have changed the time of distribution in hopes of making it easier for members who aren't available during the workday to be able to help welcome, serve and minister to pantry visitors, by making distribution in the evening; as well as easy, one-hour slots to open the pantry to receive food donation drop-offs. DBM food pickups would be best for a 2-person team or a family to volunteer to help once per month or more. We also still pickup bread & pastries to serve with our church meals and distribute to pantry or meal visitors. We pickup on Mondays & Tuesdays from Floresville & La Vernia H-E-Bs – 6:30 a.m. in Floresville and before 10 a.m. in La Vernia.
HELP WITH FOOD: We are still asking members who have the resources and are able to bless the pantry with food donations to consider some harder-to-get dairy and meat items, and as always, canned and dry goods. We will have the pantry open to receive food donations prior to Sunday and Thursday services, either for deliveries or drop off of perishable items. There is a flyer on the bulletin board in the fellowship hall that has some ideas of what food items would be helpful, as well as drop off/delivery info.
If you have any questions about how to help, or you want to volunteer to serve the pantry, please call the office at (830) 947-3333 or fill out the VOLUNTEER form on ChurchConnect.
