Why do I need a mentor?
Sheri Colbath, Women’s Mentoring Ministry Coordinator
Maybe you recently came to Christ but you’re not sure what’s next, where do go from here? Yes, you asked Christ to forgive you of your sins and be your Lord and Savior, but what does that really mean? What does that look like in my life going forward?
Maybe you are like me and “walked the aisle” at a young age after attending Vacation Bible School (VBS). You met with the Pastor and knew all the right words to say, after all you just learned them. But after the baptism nothing changed. Sure, you continued to go to Sunday School and sometimes your parents even joined you for the Worship service. But God and faith weren’t a part of your day-to-day life. The only time or place that God ever really came up was at the dinner table in prayer.
Was my salvation as a child real? I believe it was, but I never grew in my faith and learned what it meant to be Christ-like, let alone how important that was to live right and getting through the tough times that were on the horizon of this thing called life. By the time I entered Junior High I only went to church occasionally and then grudgingly.
What I needed back then, and still need now, was someone to come along side me. I needed someone to give me Godly counsel, pray for me and with me, show me how to study the Bible, how to grow, and mature as a Christian. WHAT I NEEDED WAS A MENTOR! What about you? Are you struggling to grow in your faith? You don’t have to do it alone. Ask about our women’s mentor program – EVERYONE needs a mentor.
Verses to consider: Titus 2:3-4; Hebrews 5:11-14
